What a lovely child!\u201d they whispered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p data-block-type=\"core\">Fearing to wake her, they stood watch over her tenderly.\nThat night, the seventh dwarf took turns with the others, each sleeping an hour, to pass the night.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p data-block-type=\"core\">In the morning, Snow White awoke and, seeing seven dwarfs around her, started with fright.\nBut they spoke kindly and asked, \u201cWhat is your name?\u201d\nLooking at their honest faces and warm eyes, she answered, \u201cMy name is Snow White.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p data-block-type=\"core\">\u201cHow came you to our house?\u201d they asked.\nSo she told them all that had befallen her.\nThey pitied her and said,\n\u201cIf you will keep house for us\u2014cook, make the beds, wash, spin, and mend\u2014\nyou may stay here, and we will care for you.\u201d\n\u201cGladly,\u201d said Snow White.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p data-block-type=\"core\">From then on the seven dwarfs went daily to the mountains for gold and silver,\nand Snow White stayed at home doing the housework.\nThey warned her,\n\u201cThe queen will soon learn where you are. Beware! Snow White took it, wishing to try it in her hair.\nBut the moment it touched her head, the poison worked; she fell down senseless.\n\u201cLie there as you ought to have long ago,\u201d sneered the queen, and departed.<br>Luckily, the dwarfs came home early that day.\nSeeing Snow White on the floor, they knew mischief had come again.\nThey lifted her and quickly found the poisoned comb;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p data-block-type=\"core\">when they drew it out, she soon revived.\nAfter she told them all, they warned her yet again never to open the door to anyone.\nMeanwhile the queen was at her mirror once more\uff0cand heard the same hateful answer.<br>Shaking with fury, she cried,\n\u201cSnow White must die, even if it cost me my life!\u201d\nShe shut herself away and made a poisoned apple\uff0c<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p data-block-type=\"core\">rosy and tempting to the eye,but a single bite would bring death.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p data-block-type=\"core\">Disguised as a peasant woman, she climbed the mountains again and knocked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p data-block-type=\"core\">Snow White put her head out the window and said,\n\u201cI dare not let anyone in. I will give it to you as a gift.\u201d\n\u201cNo, I dare not take it,\u201d said Snow White.\n\u201cFoolish child,\u201d muttered the woman. \u201cDo you fear poison?\nHere\u2014we\u2019ll share it.
